South Florida was hit with what seemed like a never-ending barrage of storms in 2017. We had 15 named storms, 10 hurricanes, and six major (Category 3 or stronger) hurricanes in the 2017 season. This most recent Atlantic hurricane season is now pushing up the ranks of the most active seasons on record, thanks to a frenetic stretch of long-lived, destructive hurricanes.Included in this stretch was catastrophic Category 4 Hurricane Harvey, followed by the saga of Hurricane Irma, then Jose and the intense and long-lived Hurricane Maria.
2018 HURRICANE PREDICTIONS ARE IN
Most experts are predicting similar activity in 2018, as seen in 2017, with a near to above average season of 12-15 named storms, 6-8 hurricanes, and 3-5 major hurricanes.This prediction would make 2018 one of the most active hurricane seasons in the last decade.
